Labor and Employment Law

The attorneys of the Evans Law Group have extensive experience representing employers in state and federal courts, administrative agencies and private arbitrations in a wide range of employment-related litigation. Outside the courtroom, our attorneys provide strategic counseling to clients to navigate workplace matters of contention, direct and conduct internal investigations, and draft a wide variety of employment-related documentation.

We have represented our clients in many labor law areas, including union-avoidance techniques, NLRB compliance, union grievances, labor arbitrations, unfair labor practice charges under the NLRA and defense of fringe benefit contribution litigation brought by pension funds.

Outside "In-House" Counsel Services

Clients retain the Evans Law Group to serve as their outside “in-house” employment and labor counsel, as well as direct and lead other legal projects involving subject matter experts from other law firms who are providing services to the client. These services are provided on a fixed-fee monthly retainer basis.

Employment Representation for Executives

The Evans Law Group represents executive-level employees in employment matters as well as those of equity interest in corporate entities, including portfolio companies owned by private equity groups. Our attorneys have negotiated executive-level employment agreements, equity award/stock option agreements and severance agreements.

Sports Law

In our sports law practice, we represent amateur, professional and Olympic athletes. Mr. Evans’ experience in this arena includes leading a sector of the representation of NHL Enterprises for the 2013 and 2014 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic® during his tenure with his previous firm.

Arbitrator Services

Mr. Evans is listed on the American Arbitration Association’s panel of arbitrators for Employment, Entertainment and Sports arbitrations. Mr. Evans may also be retained for private arbitrations.

Media Law

During his tenure at his previous firm, Mr. Evans represented media entities in successfully prosecuting state and federal FOIA lawsuits, including seeking disclosure of public records related to the former Mayor of the City of Detroit, Kwame Kilpatrick, and the FBI’s file from main headquarters related to the disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa. He also defended claims for defamation, news gathering and invasion of privacy, as well as opposing closure of court proceedings and issuance of gag orders and subpoenas served on news organizations and their reporters. Media organizations relied on Mr. Evans to conduct pre-publication and pre-broadcast screening of news stories, and to secure necessary court protective orders to protect the safety of on-air personalities.
